Study in Cyprus for Pakistani students is one of the most affordable ways to earn a European Union degree taught in English. Tuition is lower than in the UK or Ireland, admissions are fast, and the island is safe and welcoming.
But Cyprus has strict rules that many agents never explain: a government-set English minimum, limited student work, and a visa that does not cover the rest of Europe.
This guide to study in Cyprus for Pakistani students covers public vs private universities, the universities students choose, realistic costs, the visa and English rules, and four traps we see in files from Multan and across Punjab. Why Study in Cyprus for Pakistani Students (2026–27)
The main reasons to study in Cyprus for Pakistani students are an EU-recognized degree, almost all private-university programmes taught in English, lower tuition than most Western countries, and two intakes a year at many private universities. Cyprus is also small and safe, with a growing international student community.
Popular subjects include business, computer science, hospitality, engineering, nursing and medicine. Compare programmes, cities and intakes on our study in Cyprus from Pakistan page.
The Cyprus Ministry of Education’s official higher education website lists every recognised university and the official rules for non-EU students.
Public vs Private Universities: Two Ways to Study in Cyprus for Pakistani Students
There are two main routes. Public universities charge lower fees but teach many Bachelor’s programmes in Greek and are more competitive. Private universities charge higher fees but teach almost everything in English, accept more international students and offer more flexible intakes.
Public Universities
- Lower tuition and strong research reputations
- Many Bachelor’s programmes in Greek; English options mostly at Master’s level
- Higher entry standards and fewer seats for international students
Private Universities
- Higher tuition, but programmes taught in English
- September and spring intakes at many universities
- Most Pakistani students in Cyprus study here, especially in business, IT and health

Cyprus Student Visa for Pakistani Students: Overview
The visa route to study in Cyprus for Pakistani students starts with a student entry permit issued by Cyprus’s Civil Registry and Migration Department, with the application submitted through your university. After arrival, you apply for a temporary residence permit within days, and it must be renewed every year.
At each renewal, the authorities check that you are still a full-time student making real academic progress. Files go wrong when the course, the student’s background and the money story don’t match, or when the English proof is not on the official list. This is why most of our Cyprus work happens before the university submits anything.
English Tests Cyprus Accepts
Cyprus sets a national English minimum for all non-EU students, decided by the Council of Ministers in July 2023. The minimum is around IELTS 5.0, PTE Academic 58 or TOEFL iBT 71 (CEFR B1), and each university can ask for more — often 5.5–6.0 for Bachelor’s and 6.5 for Master’s.
The official list does not include a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter or the Duolingo English Test, so most Pakistani students need IELTS or PTE. Our IELTS preparation in Multan and PTE Academic coaching are built around these scores.
Low IELTS Score? The English Foundation Route
If you score below the minimum, Cyprus has an official route. Students who don’t meet it can join an accredited English Language Foundation Programme at a Cyprus university, which needs around IELTS 4.0 or PTE Academic 43.
It usually lasts a full academic year, and you must pass an approved English test at the end before your degree starts. At some universities, students who fail cannot repeat the foundation year and must leave Cyprus. It’s a real second chance, but only with a serious English plan. Which route fits your exact score is part of your free profile assessment.
Four Cyprus Traps That Cost Pakistani Families a Year
The plan to study in Cyprus for Pakistani students usually fails for avoidable reasons, not bad grades. These four traps lead to rejected permits, wasted fees or students sent home mid-course. We name each risk here; avoiding it in your case is covered in your free profile assessment.
1. Applying to the Wrong “Cyprus”
Many offers come from universities in the north of the island. The Republic of Cyprus does not recognise them, and a permit from the north gives no right to live, work or study in the Republic. Families often find out only after paying.
2. Relying on an MOI Letter or Duolingo
These work for some European countries, but not for Cyprus’s official list. Students who rely on them can lose an intake while they arrange an accepted test.
3. Treating Cyprus as a Back Door to Schengen
Cyprus is in the EU but not yet in the Schengen Area, so a Cyprus student permit does not let you live or work in other European countries. Plans built on “moving on to Europe” raise doubts about whether you are a genuine student.
4. Planning to Pay Fees From Part-Time Work
Work is not allowed in your first semester and later is limited to approved sectors. Students who work outside the rules risk losing their permit.

Cost to Study in Cyprus for Pakistani Students
The cost to study in Cyprus for Pakistani students depends mainly on public or private university, your subject and your city. Private universities cost more than public ones, Medicine costs the most, and Limassol and Nicosia rents are higher than Larnaca or Paphos. The ranges below are broad yearly guides.
| Cost type | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Public university tuition (non-EU) | Around €3,500–€8,000 per year |
| Private university tuition | Around €8,000–€12,000 per year |
| Medicine (private universities) | Around €20,000–€25,000+ per year |
| Living costs | Around €600–€1,000 per month |

Scholarships and Fee Discounts in Cyprus
Scholarships to study in Cyprus for Pakistani students are mostly university-based: merit scholarships, early-payment discounts and sibling discounts at private universities. Fully funded government scholarships for Pakistani students are rare, so most families plan a self-funded budget and treat any discount as a bonus.
If a fully funded degree is your main goal, compare Stipendium Hungaricum in Hungary and Türkiye’s scholarship routes. See current options on our scholarship finder.
Work Rights and Post-Study Options in Cyprus
Work rights matter when you plan to study in Cyprus for Pakistani students, and rules are strict. After the first semester, students can work up to 20 hours a week in approved sectors only. Master’s graduates can stay up to 12 months to find a job or start a business.
The sector list was updated in March 2026. Bachelor’s graduates don’t get this job-search permit, and there is no automatic route to permanent residence. If a long-term career abroad is your main goal, compare Cyprus with Germany’s 18-month job-search route, study options in Italy or the UK Graduate Route.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Cyprus good for Pakistani students?
Yes, for the right profile. Plans to study in Cyprus for Pakistani students work well because Cyprus offers EU-recognized degrees in English, lower fees than the UK, and a safe environment. It suits students who want an affordable European degree, but part-time work is limited and the visa covers only Cyprus, so plan your budget carefully.
Can I study in Cyprus without IELTS?
Usually not with an MOI letter or Duolingo, because they are not on Cyprus’s official list. Most routes to study in Cyprus for Pakistani students require an accepted test such as IELTS, PTE Academic, or TOEFL iBT, with a national minimum of around IELTS 5.0.
What IELTS score is required for Cyprus?
The national minimum for non-EU students is around IELTS 5.0 (PTE 58), and universities often ask for 5.5–6.0 for Bachelor’s and 6.5 for Master’s. Students between about IELTS 4.0 and 5.0 can join an accredited English foundation year first.
How much bank balance is required for a Cyprus student visa from Pakistan?
You must show funds for tuition and living costs, and officers also check where the money came from. The amount depends on your university and programme, so get your exact figure in PKR in a free profile assessment.
Can I work while I study in Cyprus?
Yes, but with limits. Students can work part-time, up to 20 hours a week, only after completing their first semester and only in approved sectors with Department of Labour approval. Work cannot cover your tuition or replace your visa funds.
Is Cyprus part of Schengen?
No. Cyprus is in the EU but not yet in the Schengen Area, so a Cyprus student permit is valid for Cyprus only. It does not give the right to live, study or work in other European countries.
Can I stay in Cyprus after graduation?
Graduates with a Master’s or higher degree can apply for a permit to stay up to 12 months to find a job or start a business in their field. Bachelor’s graduates need an employer-sponsored work permit to stay.
