Which LanguageCert Test Do You Need?

LanguageCert is a UK-based English test reported on the CEFR scale. Picking the wrong version is the most common mistake, so our LanguageCert preparation always starts by matching the test to your goal.

Since 1 January 2025, LanguageCert Academic SELT and General SELT replaced the old ESOL SELT 4-skills test for UK visas.
TestWho it is forWhere you take it
LanguageCert AcademicUniversity admission in the UK and other countries that accept itOnline (live remote proctoring) or at a LanguageCert test centre
LanguageCert Academic SELTUK visa applications that need a Home Office approved SELTApproved SELT test centre only (not online)
LanguageCert General SELTUK visa routes that accept a general-English SELTApproved SELT test centre only (not online)

UK student visa tip: for degree-level study, many UK universities accept the normal LanguageCert Academic test; courses below degree level need a SELT. Your university's offer letter decides, and we check it with you before you book.

Test Format

LanguageCert Academic Test Format

Two parts: a Written test (Listening, Reading, Writing) and a live 1:1 Speaking test with an examiner. Total time is about 2 hours 34 minutes, and our LanguageCert preparation covers both parts.

Listening

About 40 minutes

Lectures, talks and conversations on academic topics, with note-taking and inference questions.

Reading

50 minutes

Academic texts testing detail, main ideas, opinion and how a text is organised.

Writing

50 minutes

Two academic writing tasks marked for task response, organisation, grammar and vocabulary.

Speaking

Live 1:1 with an examiner

A short face-to-face interview, including a role play, recorded for marking.

LanguageCert General uses the same skills with everyday topics: Listening about 30 minutes, Reading 50 minutes, Writing 45 minutes, plus Speaking.

Score Guide

LanguageCert Academic Scores and CEFR Levels

Each skill gets a score from 0 to 100 on the LanguageCert Global Scale. Your overall score is the average of the four skills. Our LanguageCert preparation starts by finding your level on this scale.

Always confirm the exact score your university or visa route asks for before you book.

Do you conduct LanguageCert exams?

No. LingoLab is not an exam centre. We teach you for the test and help you book it with LanguageCert, online or at an approved test centre.

Can I take LanguageCert online from Pakistan?

Yes, the normal LanguageCert Academic test can be taken online with live remote proctoring. The UK visa versions (Academic SELT and General SELT) cannot be taken online and must be taken at an approved SELT test centre.

Is LanguageCert accepted for a UK student visa?

Yes. LanguageCert Academic SELT and General SELT are Home Office approved SELTs, and many UK universities accept the normal LanguageCert Academic test for degree-level study. Your university's offer letter tells you which one you need.

Is LanguageCert easier than IELTS?

Neither test is easier; they are built differently. LanguageCert reports CEFR levels and uses a 1:1 Speaking test with a role play. Our free assessment shows which format suits you better.

What are the fees for LanguageCert preparation?

Fees depend on online or on-campus study and the level you need to reach. Send us a WhatsApp message on +92 304 9566777 and we will share the current fees.
