Australia Study Visa FAQs
Can I study in Australia without IELTS?
Yes — many Australian institutions accept alternatives such as PTE, TOEFL, Duolingo, LanguageCert, Oxford ELLT, or evidence of prior education in English, depending on the institution. We'll confirm what your target university or college accepts.
What is the Genuine Student (GS) requirement?
The Genuine Student requirement replaced the older "Genuine Temporary Entrant" (GTE) criterion in March 2024. It asks applicants to show a genuine intention to study and a credible study plan as part of the subclass 500 visa application — we help you prepare this statement clearly and honestly.
How many hours can I work on an Australian student visa?
Subclass 500 student visa holders can generally work up to 48 hours per fortnight while their course is in session, with unlimited hours during scheduled course breaks. Master's-by-research and PhD students are generally not subject to this cap. Work-hour rules can be reviewed by the Australian Government from time to time, so we confirm the current limit with you before you start working.
Can I work in Australia after I graduate?
Graduates of an eligible course at an Australian institution may be able to apply for a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485), an open work visa for gaining local work experience. Eligibility and visa length depend on your qualification and current Department of Home Affairs settings — we confirm your specific eligibility based on your program.
